WASHINGTON - UNITED States Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said the housing sector faces 'an unprecedented situation' with a huge wave of problem mortgages and the Treasury's rate-freeze plan aims to help keep it from drowning in foreclosures, The Los Angeles Times reported. 

'The industry's dealing with an unprecedented situation, and the steps they're taking to fast-track these modifications are intended to approximate an outcome that's a market-related outcome,' Mr Paulson was quoted as saying in an interview with the the newspaper's editorial board published on Thursday.

AN EXCITING new use has been found for the annoying plastic waste that often washes up on beaches and clogs rubbish dumps: fuel.

It may sound too good to be true, given the soaring price of crude oil and the global hunt for alternative fuels, but mainboard-listed Enviro-Hub Holdings says it is building the world's first large-scale, commercial plastic-to-fuel plant.

With this being the case, coupled with its lack of natural resources, the Republic's dependence on fossil fuels is unlikely to go away within the next decade.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) launched the residential site at Choa Chu Kang Road / Woodlands Road for sale by public tender today.

The Land Parcel at Choa Chu Kang Road / Woodlands Road is one of the eight residential sites to be sold through the confirmed list under the Government Land Sale (GLS) Programme for the second half of 2007.

HONG KONG movie superstar Jackie Chan's love affair with Singapore property continues with his latest purchase - the former Jinriksha Station at 1 Neil Road. 

He fell in love with the historic building - once the central depot for rickshaw drivers in Singapore - and bought it for $11 million.

DEMAND for Housing Board flats has hit an all-time high. 

More than 1,700 applications were made for 316 new flats in the north-east zone released yesterday - just hours after the homes went on sale.

In terms of sales, almost every unit of the HDB's unsold stock, released once every two months, has been snapped up immediately.
